The first signs of the arrival of the flu have not yet been there, although, according to experts, we will have to wait at least mid-October for a first possible response.

According to the National Italian Institute of Health (ISS istituto superior della Sanità), the flu peak will come “between the end of January and the beginning of February, as happened in the recent years, except in two seasons when the peak came immediately after Christmas”.

However, there is a cautious optimism, again according to the ISS, by analyzing certain situations such as the Australian one. “The last season in Australia was very mild,” they explain. The reasons, however, can be multiple and therefore not satisfactory for making certain predictions.

“If the trend seen in the Southern hemisphere is confirmed, we could have a mild season” underline from the ISS, remembering however the importance of vaccination. In general, the period for the flu vaccine in Italy is the one that goes from mid-October to the end December. At the moment the Italian Ministry of Health has not communicated the start date of the vaccination campaign, but has invited to bring it forward with respect to past years in order to better manage the coronavirus emergency.
